Thank you to all members for your continued support and engagement as we navigate final changes related to our use of the TSCWA (Townsville Senior Citizens Welfare Assoc) facility.
At its meeting on 18 June 2025, the U3A Townsville Committee confirmed its decision regarding our former arrangement with the Townsville Senior Citizens Welfare Association (TSCWA), and the associated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Following changes in TSCWA’s management and their revised terms — which included either paying commercial rent or vacating — the environment became unsuitable for U3A’s continued operation at the venue. This raised concerns for the wellbeing of our members and volunteers.
The Committee considered two options:
- Supporting a vote of no confidence (not pursued).
- Legal action regarding the MOU.
After reviewing legal advice and financial implications, the Committee unanimously agreed not to pursue legal action. Even with a favourable outcome, returning was not viable. The legal costs would also outweigh any potential benefit, and as a not-for-profit, we must prioritise resources for our members’ direct benefit.
We are now focusing on identifying new premises, with our Vincent lease due to expire in June 2026.
We thank all members for their understanding and continued support as we move forward.
