Temporary Friday Talk Suspension

Posted/Updated: 28th May 2026

FRIDAY TALKS

After careful consideration, we wish to advise that Friday Talks will be temporarily suspended while we review the resources and support required to continue running a successful program.

Over the past three years, the program has largely been managed by one administrator and one class organiser, supported by ideas and contributions from committee members, tutors, and members. As the program has grown, it has become clear that a successful 20-week Friday Talks program requires a dedicated team of approximately 4–6 volunteers.

Each session involves considerable preparation and coordination, including room and equipment setup, presenter liaison, member registration, introductions, attendance records, weekly promotions, and ongoing communication with presenters and coordinators.

While Friday Talks has been a valued part of our U3A community, the workload is no longer manageable without additional volunteer support.

Attendance numbers have also steadily declined, suggesting the need to review presentation styles, topics, and the current day and time of sessions. Should a committed team come forward to support the program, we would certainly revisit all aspects to ensure Friday Talks remains an engaging and fulfilling activity for our members.

We sincerely thank everyone who has contributed to the success of Friday Talks over the years and appreciate your understanding during this temporary suspension.

Kind regards,

U3A Committee
